GOSHEN – Dorothy R. Herring, 88, died May 15, 2015, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Syracuse, where she resided the past month. She was born March 16, 1927, in Chicago, to Henry and Emily Brauneis Van Zuilen. On April 12, 1947, in White Pigeon, Mich., she married Robert D. Herring, who died July 7, 1997. An area resident since 1947, she and her husband co-owned Herring’s dental laboratory, Goshen. She was a member and deacon at First Presbyterian Church, Goshen, where she also served as a Sunday school teacher. She was a campfire leader and Cub Scout den mother. Survivors include a daughter, Carol (and spouse Devon) Manns, Syracuse; a son, Mark (and spouse Paula) Herring, Leesburg; six grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Darlene (and spouse Leland) DePue, Middlebury. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Craig Whetten; a brother, Donald Van Zuilen; and a sister, June Hostetler. Cremation will be at Yoder-Culp Crematory, Goshen.
