PLYMOUTH - Doris May Rovenstine, 98, passed away at 12:10 a.m. Sept. 16, 2010, in Miller's Merry Manor, Plymouth, of natural causes.

She was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Crawfordsville, to Jesse S. and Ethel Campbell Ward. On May 1, 1937, in Lafayette, she married Clarence E. "Gene" Rovenstine, who died Jan. 9, 2006.

A former resident of the communities of Bourbon and Bremen, she made her home for the past five years in the Miller's Assisted Living Center, Plymouth. She graduated from Crawfordsville High and earned a degree in social work from Indiana University, Bloomington. Following graduation she worked as a social worker in Terre Haute. She and her husband enjoyed 68 years together and spent more than 30 winters in various parts of Florida. Their passion was antiques, as dealers they bought, sold and traded at numerous shows in the Midwest and Florida. She was most fond of dolls, dishes and teapots. She was a homemaker and possessed a green thumb, especially for African Violets. The couple enjoyed bridge, golfing and bowling and after her husband's death, she continued a most active life. She was known by her family to be adventurous, kind and gracious with a creative side and a gift for writing.

Surviving are three loving daughters: Rosemary E. (and spouse Richard) Stutzman, Crawfordsville; Rita A. (and Roger) Thayer, Argon; and Roberta J. (and spouse Steve) Mann, Osceola; seven grandchildren: Belinda Hartzler; Tod Stutzman; Robin Davidson; Pamelyn Eads; Jennifer Silva; and Michael and Matthew Mann; and 14 great-grandchildren: Lauren, Preston and Marlynne Stutzman; Audrey and A.J. Hartzler; Griffyn and Quentyn Carpenter; Braydon and Christin Davidson; Caroline and Jake Eads; Natalie, Nicole and Nathan Mann. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Jill Carpenter; and a great-granddaughter, Madlyn Eads.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, officiated by the Rev. Ken Walker of Argos United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Bremen Cemetery.

Calling is from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
