NAPPANEE – Doris Ann Heckaman, 71, of Nappanee, died from natural causes at 1:15 p.m. June 3, 2013, in her residence. She was born Dec. 12, 1941, in Kosciusko County, to Howard M. and E. Berniece Fisher Berger. On May 25, 1962, she married Kenneth L. Heckaman, who died Aug. 2, 2009. A lifetime area resident, she was a 1959 graduate of Nappanee High School and was a nurse for many years at Anglemyer Clinic, Nappanee, and was the first paramedic to serve on Nappanee EMS, serving from 1976-86. She was a member of Nappanee United Methodist Church and a former member of Hastings Island Chapel Church. Surviving are two daughters, Sharie Heckaman and Lisa (and spouse Brian) Lewis, all of Nappanee; a son, Brian Heckaman, Nappanee; three sisters: Lynn Whittenberger, Kokomo; Janice (and spouse James) Fackler, Syracuse; and Margaret Bell, Matteson, Ill.; and two brothers, William Berger, New Paris, and Steven (and spouse Connie) Berger, Wallingford, Vt A graveside service will be at 3 p.m. Friday at South Union Cemetery with the Revs. Jim Davidson and Jeff Fackler officiating.
