Editor, Times-Union: There are always two sides to every issue. Each side will have strong and weak points if both sides use only the truth. The issue needs to be decided by the ultimate end goal. If both sides use only verified and documented facts, it is up to each individual to decide what ones are the most important to them. If each side decides they have the correct information, and the other group does not, both groups will be classified as closed minded.
Freedom of speech does not mean freedom of spreading rumors or false information. Take a fresh look at what you read. It is up to you to do the research. Do not take either side’s word for an issue until you are satisfied that you know the absolute truth.
Cargill had a huge recall of ground turkey. I listened to the newscast chide farmers for creating an antibiotic resistant strain of salmonella. They report that because the farmers are using low-dose antibiotics in meat production. This causes bacteria to become resistant. People are not able to use the top three prescribed antibiotics to overcome this strain of salmonella. The radio report pointed out that the animal farming industry uses four times more antibiotics than people do. A scientist was interviewed and backed up each fact. An independent report has been made by the PEW Charitable Foundation.
I had a family of farmers look me in the eye and tell me that this is not how the meat industry works. I am beginning to wonder who is in denial, who is telling the truth, and who really cares about the health of human beings.
