Editor, Times-Union: It was disheartening to read the 11/3&4 News Views to learn you have “pretty much given up on the notion of our county ever returning to the principles on which it was founded.” Times-Union readers utilize what they learn from our local paper when formulating their views and opinions. If our local paper has given up on changing the direction of the country, why should we continue to struggle for change? I’m not going to give in, but continue to fight in order to return our nation to the greatness it previously enjoyed. All readers should not and cannot sit back and watch our nation become equivalent to a European country in bankruptcy as our national debt expands by over $1 trillion a year. Nor can we idly standby as our country slides toward socialism with almost half the adult population paying no income tax while receiving benefits provided by productive taxpayers. It’s time to rise up and take charge of our county’s direction, and demand the changes needed to prevent our county’s demise. We should start by voting this Tuesday. Are the candidates on the ballot flawed? Yes, as we all are, but we should vote for a change and then communicate with those elected to demand a return to our founding principles.
