PIERCETON – Donna B. Orr, 90, Pierceton, went to meet her Savior at 8:59 p.m. March 17, 2015, in Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born June 23, 1924, in Pierceton, to Roy and Mahala Werstler Cole. On April 12, 1947, in Lafayette, she married Herbert Jr. “Red” Orr, who preceded her in death June 27, 1988. She grew up in a family of eight children. She graduated from Pierceton High School in 1942 and from St. Joseph School of Nursing in 1945. She was valedictorian of both her high school and nursing graduating classes. She was a well-respected R.N., working at McDonald’s Hospital and Murphy Medical Center in Warsaw as a supervisor of surgery; Drs. Baum’s and Hashemi’s offices; private duty nursing; Prairie View Nursing Home; and at R.R. Donnelley, shere she ended her nursing career after 17 years, retiring in 1985. She lived her entire life in Pierceton until moving to Warsaw in 2010 due to health reasons. She always said her greatest gift and accomplishment were her family, and she treasured spending time with them. She is survived by two sons, Steve (and spouse Pamela) Orr, Columbia City, and Mike (and spouse Margaret) Orr, Warsaw; one daughter, Debra (and spouse Steve) Holbrook, Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Lance (and spouse Nicole) Hanni, Tennessee; James Orr, Oregon; Caroline (and spouse Keith) Shelton, Indianapolis; Tom (and spouse Theresa) Orr, Warsaw; Erin Sampson, Pierceton; Chad (and spouse Heidi) Holbrook, South Bend; Kelly (and spouse Jordan) Murphy, Kentucky; and Ryan Holbrook, Florida; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Betty Cope, Ardmore, Okla.; one sister-in-law, Maxine Cole, Pierceton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins, whom she held dearly to her, as well as many wonderful friends. She was also preceded in death by five brothers: Alson, Raymond “Nub,” Robert, Franklin and Everett Cole; and one sister, Elsie Best. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, Pierceton, with Pastor Holly White officiating. Burial is in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton.
