Donald Mike Caverley, father of four and a devoted husband, passed away March 3, 2017, shortly before 9:30 p.m. in his Warsaw home. He was 68 years old at the time of his passing.
He was born Sept. 17, 1948, in Ypsilanti, Mich. He was the son of Harold and Dorothy Henry Caverley. He spent his formative years in Ypsilanti before moving to the Warsaw area in his early teens.
On Nov. 27, 1967, he was married to Marjorie Hatfield in Warsaw. Together, the two lived out a love story that included the sharing of many precious moments and nearly 50 years of marriage. She survives in Warsaw.
He spent 29 years working as a loader operator and in maintenance for Elkhart County Gravel. He and his wife are members of Clunette United Methodist Church.
In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting and trying his luck at the casino boats. He enjoyed watching tractor pulls and, more recently, drag racing. He was also a fan of Detroit Lions football and of NASCAR drivers Dale Jarrett and Tony Stewart. Most of all, he enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also had a special love for his dogs, Tiny and Cooper, and his squirrel friend, Blackie, who would visit his window each day for hand-fed snacks.
In addition to his wife, Margie, those who shared his life and are left with memories to treasure include his children: Laurie (spouse Jeff) Head, Warsaw; Michael (spouse Sherry) Caverley, Warsaw; Bill (spouse Laurel) Caverley, Warsaw; and Sue (spouse Scott) Shelhart, Claypool; nine grandchildren: Abigail, Jackson, Ryan, Brooke, Doug, Andy, Lora, Devinn and Christian; 14 great-grandchildren: Jayden, Alek, Kaleigh, Madden, Connlee, Baylee, Isaiah, Ameliah, Josiah, Bradyn, Brystol, Briggs, Ryker and Khealer; four brothers: Pat Caverley, Florida; Jim (spouse Joyce) Caverley, Mesa, Ariz.; Dean Caverley, Michigan; and Arthur Caverley, Florida; and two sisters, Margaret (spouse Gerald) Simcox, Grovertown, and Kathy Matthews, Arkansas.
Those who preceded Donald include his sons, Donald and Duane Caverley; parents, Harold and Dorothy Caverley; sisters, Carol Jarrell and Jeannette Caverley; brother, Walter Caverley; and infant twin siblings, Gerald and Geraldine Caverley.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw.
A funeral service celebrating his life will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home, with calling one hour prior. Pastor Mike Beezley of Clunette United Methodist Church will officiate.
