AKRON - Donald J. Baker, 84, of 9649 S. Ind. 19, Akron, died at 11:44 p.m. Oct. 31, 2009, in his residence.

He was born May 1, 1925, in Kosciusko County, to George and Elta Parker Baker. On Jan. 3, 1945, in Silver Lake, he married Patricia A. Rowland, who survives.

He was a full-time dairy farmer and worked for the Indiana State Highway. He graduated from Silver Lake High School in 1943. He enjoyed his daily visits to the Akron Country Kitchen.

Also surviving are a daughter, Pansy Jacob, Akron; three sons: Jacob (and spouse Adena) Baker, Wetumpka, Ala.; Tom (and spouse Jane) Baker, Claypool; and Ted (and spouse Nancy) Baker, Warsaw; a son-in-law, Fred Koehlinger, Fremont; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Delta Shipley, Warsaw, and Gloria Shipley, Leesburg. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Priscilla Baker Koehlinger, who passed Jan. 30, 2008, and a sister, Phyllis Sittler.

At Donald's request, services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, 305 W. Rochester St., Akron. Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery, Akron.

Calling is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
