Donald D. "Banjo Man" Reid, 74, of Pierceton, died at 9:36 p.m. June 21, 2010, in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

He was born June 11, 1936, in Pierceton, to Vern K. and Helen Sroufe Reid. On Aug. 31, 1958, in Warsaw, he married Beverly J. Rathbun, who survives.

A lifetime Pierceton resident, he was a custodian at Harrison Elementary School, Warsaw, for 10 years, retiring in 2001. He formerly worked for Peabody ABC for 20 years.

Known as the Banjo Man, he was a member of Cook's Chapel; long-time board member for the Lakeland area Girl Scouts; member of Pierceton Lion's Club where he was past president and zone chairman emeritus; trustee on the Lion's State Board of the Speech and Hearing Committee; and a Boy Scout Leader.

Also surviving are a daughter, Michelle L. Baker, Pierceton; a son, Monty Reid, Dallas, Ga.; and a grandson, Patrick Baker. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Misty Reid, and an infant sister, Janice Reid.

A Lion's memorial service will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastors Marvin Lowman and Gene Gephart officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery, Wilmot.

Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
