BOURBON – Don Wampler died April 15, 2012. He received exceptional care and passed away in the residence of his loving son, Don Wampler, wife Rebecca and other family members. He was loved by all.

He was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Wabash, to Elmer and Bessie Collins Wampler. On June 2, 1977, he married a beautiful, caring woman, Virginia Marillas, from the Philippines. She was accepted into the Lord’s arms Oct. 23, 2008.

He was a World War II veteran jet mechanic and proud to serve his country. He received his World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service, Marksman Badge and Carbine Bar. He was a member of the American Legion and affiliated with the Atwood Christian Fellowship Church.

He spent his life working as an auto mechanic. There was never a car built he could not fix or build from bottom up. After retirement he enjoyed building motorized bikes, both two seaters and four with his son Don. He also loved to go fishing and bragged about the big one that got away.

Surviving are his three children: Don (and spouse Rebecca) Wampler, Bourbon; David Wampler, Wabash; and Shirley Ulery, New Haven; four sisters: Barbara (and spouse Verl) Stellar, Wabash; Dorcas (and spouse Dallas) Hayes, Alexandria; Marilyn (and spouse Everett) Slagle, Pella, Iowa; and Bonitta Michaels, Kokomo; a brother, Jim Wampler, Wabash; 11 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Wampler; his parents, Elmer and Bessie Wampler; a son-in-law, Alan Ulery; and a brother-in-law, Bert Michaels.

Britt Meyer of Atwood Christian Fellowship Church. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Bourbon, officiated by Pastor Dave Cripe of New Hope Freewill Baptist Church, Warsaw, and with military graveside services.
