SYRACUSE – A barking dog alerted its owner to a fire in Syracuse Friday morning.
Turkey Creek Fire Territory responded to a report of a porch fire at 12650 N. Rainey Road West, Syracuse, at 1:05 a.m. Friday. All occupants were out of the home at the time.
Upon arrival of the first fire department personnel, one structure was reported to be fully engulfed, a press release from the fire territory stated.
The property is owned by Joseph R. Kumstar and was occupied by Roxann Arnott.
The fire has been ruled accidental.
Arnott told authorities her dog had woke her up by barking, and she then saw a fire on the outside wall of the structure. The smoke alarms in house then went off.
There were no injuries reported.
Additional manpower and tankers were provided by the North Webster Fire Department and the Benton Township Fire Department, along with a tanker from the Milford Fire Department.
The fire was brought under control shortly before 2 a.m. Friday. Damage was estimated to be $110,000, according to the news release.
Buildings on each side of the Kumstar property sustained minor damage due to radiant heat from the fire.
Arnott was reportedly receiving assistance with relocation and clothing from neighbors, the release said.
A loss of electric and cable services were reported in the area as a result of the fire. Utility crews were at the scene Friday morning to restore the services to the affected buildings in the area.
The Kosciusko County Squad 70 Fire Investigation Team was called in to investigate the cause of the fire.
