NORTH WEBSTER — Local historic sternwheeler Dixie is setting sail for high-seas adventure this month with a brand-new, fully interactive Pirate Cruise.
On Saturday, Aug. 15 at 1 p.m., passengers won't just take a typical boat ride —they will step directly into a living pirate adventure as rogue buccaneers hijack the vessel in search of a new crew, according to a provided news release.
Upon boarding, each passenger will receive a pouch of doubloons to use throughout the journey. Attendees can use their gold to bribe the captain, strike deals with rogue sailors or buy their way out of trouble as live actors lead high-seas banter, impromptu games and mischief across Webster Lake.
"Whether passengers want to scheme with the actors, participate in deck antics, or simply sit back and enjoy the drama, everyone becomes part of the story as they walk the mini-plank to board," said Rick Owens, Dixie Board member.
"It’s a fantastic, hands-on way for families and adventure-seekers to experience Webster Lake and the Dixie boat like never before. Even the Dixie itself is getting dressed up for the voyage – lowering her famous smokestacks and donning giant pirate masts complete with yardarms!"
Guests are encouraged to wear their best pirate garb, though dressing up is optional.
To ensure a personal, interactive experience between the crew and passengers, capacity is strictly limited. With temporary twin 20-foot masts, yardarms, and full rigging going up, no one has ever seen the Dixie like this before, the release states. Gather your crew, grab your tickets early, and step aboard the ultimate Webster Lake adventure!
The Dixie Dock is at 403 S. Dixie Drive (Town Park), North Webster.
Tickets are $20 per person, pre-sale only. Tickets can be purchased online at https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/TLVSCT7KZK2S4
In-person cash sales can be made at Fisherman Cove Resort's Store, 340 E. Huntington St., North Webster.
As always, the Dixie is subject to its normal weather related restrictions to ensure passenger safety. Additionally, capacity for this cruise is strictly limited to allow full crew interaction; no walk-up ticket sales will be available at the dock on the day of the event.
