After 49 years of inspiring dancers and building community, Debra Collier will retire at the conclusion of this season, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the studio she founded in 1977.
What began as a fourth-grade dream and came to life in the basement of her home grew into far more than a dance studio — it became a second home for generations of dancers and families throughout the community, according to a provided news release. Through her passion, leadership and love of teaching, Deb created a legacy that has shaped countless students both on and off the stage, the release states.
As part of a succession process, ownership of the studio will transfer to longtime instructor Kristina Collier and her husband, Chase Collier. Kristina has been part of the studio for 28 years and has played an integral role in teacher training, program and syllabus development, studio growth and daily operations.
“We are deeply honored to continue the incredible legacy Miss Deb built over the past 49 years,” said Kristina. “Our commitment is to preserve the spirit, traditions, and sense of community that have made the studio such a special place for generations of families.”
The studio’s instructors, staff, mission and core values will remain in place as the studio enters this next chapter. Deb’s influence and presence will continue to be felt throughout the studio community she helped create, the release states.
The studio will celebrate Deb’s retirement and her impact during its annual recitals on May 30 with a special onstage tribute. An additional celebration recognizing her years of dedication is also being planned for later this summer.
Kristina and Chase Collier expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to carry forward the legacy Deb built and their excitement as the studio prepares to enter its 50th season next year. They look forward to honoring the foundation she created while continuing the studio’s longstanding tradition of dance, community and excellence for generations to come, according to the release.
