MENTONE - David G. Bowser, 77, of 307 W. Jackson St., Mentone, died at 3:10 a.m. Oct. 17, 2007, in Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, after a brief illness.
He was born April 1, 1930, in Mentone, to Edward and Opal Marquess Bowser. On June 12, 1948, at the Mentone Methodist Church, he married Eileen R. Kercher, who survives.
He was a meat cutter at L&B Market, Mentone, in the earlier years, and worked at Midwest Spring, Mentone. He was a member of Mentone United Methodist Church; a member of Mentone Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years; and a longtime member of Mentone Lions Club. He graduated from Mentone High School in 1948, where he played basketball and baseball. He was a lifetime Chicago Cubs fan. He worked a lot in genealogy and loved U.S. history and gardening.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Ryan (Amy) Williams, Leesburg, Va.; two sons, Rex (and wife Kathy) Bowser, Chandler, Ariz., and Reid (and wife Betty) Bowser, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren, Melea and Brittany Williams and Jarrod, Justin, Matthew and Kasey Bowser; four great-grandchildren, Taylor, Payton and Simon Bowser and Wyatt Gibbs; and three sisters, Phyllis Alber, Rochester; Mrs. Larry (Rebecca) Stavedahl, Mentone; and Margaret Bruner, Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Flory, and four brothers, Earl, DeVerl, Carl and Wayne Bowser.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at King Memorial Home, 101 N. Tucker St., Mentone, with the Rev. Doris Smith of Mentone United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Mentone Cemetery.
Calling is from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with a Masonic Lodge service to follow.
