Daffodil Days Are Here – Really!

Posted
You look out your window and wonder how in the world can it be Daffodil Days time with all this snow on the ground, but it is, stated a news release about Daffodil Days.

Daffodil Days is the campaign of the American Cancer Society. Daffodils are a symbol of spring coming and hope in the fight against cancer, according to the release. Daffodil Days has been a part of the American Cancer Society for many years and in the area for close to 45 years.

The American Cancer Society recently contacted local representatives Carol Huffer and Jan Callaghan to let them know daffodils would be available March 17. Orders are being taken through Feb. 18.

Huffer and Callaghan have volunteers to help deliver orders on the day the flowers come in. They have said many times how grateful they are for the people that want to be a part of this great day and have come back year after year to help, according to the release.

The volunteers of this Daffodil Days group know cancer either personally or through their family. They know by experience what it can mean to receive or to give this gift of daffodils, according to the release.

Volunteers love to deliver an order of daffodils to someone going through treatment and see their face light up when they receive a bouquet of beautiful yellow flowers. Or, to the survivor, and watch their face go into a smile and the nodding of their head knowing they survived and what they endured. Daffodils were a long time ago titled “The Flower of Hope.”

This year the daffodils will again be 10 stems of tight buds that will open to present yellow blossoms within a few hours after being put in water.  And, there is the “Gift of Hope.”  It is 10 stems of daffodils and a beautiful vase along with the gift card and how to care for the flowers.

Anderson Greenhouse is offering space this year for people to stop and pick up their order(s) of daffodils. The hours for pick-up will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. March 17. Orders of 10 bunches of more are delivered before noon at no charge of course.

Huffer is receiving orders by email at bchuffer@comcast.net or call Callaghan at 574-267-6676 or Lea at Anderson’s at 574-551-3630.
