Editor, Times-Union: I have a question: What ever happened to customer service? Example: About three weeks ago on a Monday, I contacted a professional contractor to do a couple of things in his line of profession. He assured me he would be at our house the very next Friday. Guess what? He did not show up nor did he let me know that he would not be able to do the job. Thinking that he might have had some sort of emergency, I waited about three weeks and called him last Friday. He assured me we were still on his list and he made an appointment to be at my house at 8 a.m. the following Monday. Guess what? Again, no show and no phone call. How can you run a business when you show such an indifference to your customers? If he didn’t want to take the job, why didn’t he just say so? Instead, I wasted two different days waiting for this professional contractor to show up or call. It seems, in so many professions today, customer service has gone by the wayside and the consumer has to pay the price. Jon T. Smith Warsaw, via email
