Posted
Staff Report-
This July is Crossway Trails Month, a celebration of over 150 miles of trails in Northern Indiana and Southwestern Michigan.
The month will include a walking, biking, running or rolling mileage challenge, Crossway Trail Duck scavenger hunt and installation of Crossway Trails signs throughout the region. If residents are interested in participating for a chance to win prizes, they can sign-up at www.crosswaytrails.com/#trailsmonth.
Crossway Trails month is about promoting the unique trail network in the region and encouraging people to use active forms of transportation for their daily trips, according to a news release from MACOG. Throughout the month, MACOG will be highlighting significant trails on social media to inspire you to choose your path #OnTheCrossway. Support for this month’s activities and promotions is provided thanks to NIPSCO’s Environmental Action Grant.
How do you participate?
For the mileage challenge, participants will have the chance to record their active transportation trips for a chance to win prizes at the end of the month. Prizes will be awarded to those with the most miles recorded, longest consecutive trip and most commuter miles. Sign up to receive registration information at https://crosswaytrails.com/#trailsmonth.
For the scavenger hunt, 25 Crossway Trails Ducks will be placed on trails throughout the region. If you find one while exploring the trails, snap a photo with the duck and post to Facebook or Instagram to be entered for prizes. Tag @CrosswayTrails with #OnTheCrossway, or message Crossway Trails if your account is private.
The Crossway Trails network is an evolving and interconnected system of paths across North Central Indiana and Southwest Michigan, meant to connect families, friends, commuters and visitors to their destinations easily and safely. Connecting paths provides opportunities to improve health outcomes, strengthen communities and enhance accessibility and mobility for all. There are over 150 miles of existing paths, with the vision of adding over 250 miles of planned paths in the next 20 years. For more information about Crossway Trails, visit www.crosswaytrails.com or follow along on the Crossway Trails’ Facebook Page or Instagram @CrosswayTrails.
Crossway Trails was established in 2019 after a year-long regional trail branding and wayfinding process seeking feedback on names, colors, logos and sign styles.
