A Cromwell man died in a car wreck early Saturday morning near South Shore Golf Course in Syracuse.
Tyler Goodpaster, 24, was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by Brittany Hughes, 25, of Cromwell, when he was ejected after the vehicle left the roadway and rolled, according to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office accident report.
Goodpaster was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kosciusko County Coroner, and Hughes was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for a fracture to her face.
The accident occurred at about 6:45 a.m.
According to the police report, Hughes was driving a 2000 Nissan Altima north on Ind. 13, south of Southshore Drive in Turkey Creek Township, when the vehicle left the east side of the roadway, struck a tree and rolled.
Hughes told police she was tired from being up all night planning a birthday party for her children, when she fell asleep at the wheel.
Speed is not believed to be a factor, according to police, and the crash is under investigation by the Kosciusko County Fatal Team.
Responding agencies included the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Syracuse Police Department, Turkey Creek Fire Territory, North Webster/Tippecanoe Township Fire Department, Kosciusko County Coroner’s Office and Lutheran Air Ambulance.
Goodpaster leaves behind three children, and memorial donations are requested for his children’s trust fund account in Ohio, where they reside.
