A Cromwell man is in jail after he allegedly got into an argument about food with his girlfriend, then strangled her.
Cameron Tyler Coplin, 25, of 9601 N. Sandpoint Drive, Cromwell, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 2:53 p.m. Sunday and faces charges of strangulation, a Level 6 felony; domestic battery with a child under 16 present, a Level 6 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Jan. 17 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Dec. 31 Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a home in reference to a domestic disturbance. Upon arrival, police spoke with a woman who said she and Coplin had gotten into an argument about preparing food, so she started to leave the residence.
As she tried to exit the home, court papers state, Coplin pulled her into the bathroom by her shirt, grabbed her by her neck putting her against the wall, and then threw her into the bath tub, getting on top of her and putting his knee on her chest.
The woman told police she could not breathe while Coplin was doing this, and she had injuries that matched what she said, police reports state.
Four juveniles were in the home at the time of the incident, court papers state.
