Crash In Elkhart Co. Kills Syracuse Man

SYRACUSE – A Saturday night fatal crash between New Paris and Syracuse is under investigation by the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.

Harry Wells, 39, Syracuse, died in the crash.

Wells was driving a 2010 Chevrolet Impala northbound on CR 127 through the intersection of CR 48 when a 2004 Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Howard Lehman, 44, Syracuse, collided with the Impala. The front of Wells’ car struck the front-passenger side of the truck, according to an ECSD news release.

A passenger in Wells’ vehicle, Donya Tam, 26, Elkhart, was taken by ambulance to Goshen Hospital for minor lacerations and complaint of neck pain.

Howard Lehman, and all four passengers in his car, Marlene Lehman, 45; Ashlyn Lehman, 9; Austin Lehman, 9; and Alisha Lehman, 12, all of Syracuse, were also taken by ambulance to Goshen?Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

It is unknown if any of those involved in the crash were wearing seatbelts, the release states. ECSD was unable to comment if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the collision.

The crash is under investigation and is being worked by the ECSD Crash Investigation Team.
