Crash Causes Light Issue At Center & Cleveland

Posted
The electrical box to the traffic light at the intersection of Center and Cleveland streets is being fixed after being struck by a Goshen man Thursday.

According to the Warsaw Police Department report, at 5:41 p.m. Thursday, Cory A. Young, 41, was travelling west on Center Street, approaching Cleveland Street.

Video from Warsaw Fire Station #2 showed Young going off the road at the intersection, where he struck the south side of the light pole. His vehicle then jumped the curb, striking the signal cabinet box. Young then went through the fire station parking lot and curved around the building, coming to a stop, according to the report.

Young advised Warsaw police he remembered seeing the street light but didn’t remember anything else up until someone turned off his vehicle, according to the report. He advised police he recently switched medications and was dehydrated after working, believing that to be the reason he passed out prior to the accident.

Young suffered minor bleeding.

WPD was informed it is possible the signal could take several weeks to fix, according to information provided by Public Information Officer Det./Sgt. Brad Kellar.

“Please be aware of the four-way stop sign that will be there indefinitely. It may be good to take alternate routes for work until we advise it has been fixed,” said Kellar.

Estimated damage for the accident is $25,000-$50,000.
