County To Participate In Opioid Settlement

Posted

Kosciusko County may receive money from a national opioid settlement.
County attorney Ed Ormsby presented a participation and release form to the Kosciusko County Commissioners Tuesday for a new proposed national opioid settlement that has been reached with Purdue Pharma and the Sackler family. The proposed settlement is being implemented in connection with Purdue Pharma’s bankruptcy proceedings.
Under Indiana law, Kosciusko County is considered part of the opioid settlement that Indiana decided to join. However, the opposing parties require the participating form for the Purdue direct settlement be completed in order for the county to be considered a participating subdivision under the settlement agreement.
Ormsby said he reviewed the release form and it was his recommendation the commissioners go ahead and participate and execute the release form.
It is not known how much money Kosciusko County could receive from the settlement. Ormsby said that will be determined once all of the settlement forms are aggerated and the bankruptcy court has further proceedings to see if the settlement will be approved.
The commissioners OK’d Ormsby’s recommendation 30.
