Editor, Times-Union: Early this morning I drove from my home in the north county to my office in Warsaw, traveling along my usual zigzagging pattern to avoid the known and numerous, large potholes that crater the county roads. I was able to avoid the craters, but I could not avoid the entire section which had collapsed just north of Armstrong Road at 200 East. It was an unavoidable, jaw-dropping, rim-bending and tire-bursting crater. Sure enough, now at noon, I await roadside service to repair the flat tire that I had dreaded. Our county officials do great work in looking out for our many public interests. We are aware of the budget difficulties they face in providing essential services. But residents of Kosciusko County perhaps have been too silent too long regarding the conditions of our county roads. We need to let elected officials know this is not just an issue of inconvenience as we bump and sway and swerve along our way. It is not just a matter of our out of pocket expenses as we repair tires and wheels and suspension systems. It IS a huge matter of public safety and should be addressed soon. What is the plan for comprehensive repair of our county roadways? I, for one, would gladly pay my share of reasonable extra taxes necessary to travel county roadways reasonably free of these public hazards. Wayne Walston Warsaw, via e-mail
