Kosciusko County Redevelopment Commission did a review of two tax increment finance (TIF) districts Thursday.
For the Van Buren TIF district, Commission member and County Councilwoman Joni Truex asked if that was the TIF district they took the $600,000 from for the CR 1300 project. County Auditor Michelle Puckett said it was.
Truex said there was a balance left in the Van Buren TIF district of $59,586.85 and said the long-term plan should be to let the money in the district grow since there isn’t enough money to spend on any projects.
For the TruPointe TIF, Commission President Jan Orban said TruPointe will continue to pay down the bond associated with the TIF district.
Truex said as long as TruPointe keeps making the payments on the bond, all is well.
The current balance of the TIF is $153,059.37. The remaining balance of the bond to be paid off is $518,418.38.
Truex said when TruPointe, 505 E. CR 1400N, Milford, moved in, they got a bond to expand their business “so we bonded them the cash to be able to do that.”
Puckett said she wasn’t sure exactly when TruPointe expanded, but believes it was within the last eight years.
The Commission also tabled a decision on its 2022 meeting dates.
Truex asked if the Commission had enough business to justify continuing to meet monthly or if they can go back to meeting quarterly. Orban said she thought there was enough business to meet monthly.
Puckett said it was up to the Commission how many times it wants to meet in a year. It is required they have the first meeting in January, which is scheduled for Jan. 3. If the decision is to meet on a monthly basis, they can always cancel the meeting due to lack of business.
The decision was tabled to get more input from other members since Adam Turner, Doug Hanes and Jeremy Mullins were not in attendance.
