County Courthouse To Go ‘Green’ Nov. 7-13 For VeteransFor the week of Veterans Day, the old Kosciusko County courthouse will be illuminated green as part of Operation Green Light.
The county recently announced it will take part in the new initiative Nov. 7-13 between the county, the State Association of Counties, the National Association of Counties and the National Association of County Veteran Service Officers, according to a news release. Veterans Day is Nov. 11.
The mission of Operation Green Light is to show support for veterans of all military conflicts, as well as raise awareness about the challenges faced by many veterans and their families in gaining resources that are available to assist them at the county, state and federal levels.
County Commissioner Brad Jackson said, “I full support this because we owe our freedom and our way of life to our veterans, and I think that any way we can recognize our veterans and thank them and honor them is appropriate.”
Residents also are encouraged to participate by simply changing one light bulb in their house to a green bulb, the release states. This can be an exterior light that neighbors and passersby see, or an interior light that sparks a conversation with friends.
“By shining a green light, we are letting our veterans know that they are seen, appreciated and supported,” the release states.
While this event is focused around the week of Veterans Day, participants are encouraged to continue shining the light year-round, the release states. Participants are encouraged to share their participation on social media using the hashtag #OperationGreenLight.
