County Continues Working With Engineering Firm As Justice Building Cleanup Proceeds

Posted

While the county is waiting on a proposal from the engineering company on how to best move forward with the Kosciusko County Justice Building exterior limestone panel collapse, cleanup is continuing.
On Aug. 29, exterior limestone panels on the east side (facing Lake Street) of the Justice Building downtown Warsaw fell. No one was injured. On Sept. 9, the Kosciusko County Commissioners approved Robinson Construction to start cleaning the damage up. That section of the Justice Building was built in 1981.
Providing an update Tuesday on the Justice Building, Cary Groninger, president of the Kosciusko County Commissioners, said, “We have received our preliminary engineering report. We’re still working through as far as what we’re going to do with that as far as the safety measures. We’re going to be making sure we’re following with what they’ve given to us and then they’re working up a proposal to start with the next phases of what repairs or what things need to happen.”
He pointed outworkers were over at the Justice Building Tuesday getting the remaining panels that were broke loose in that area and getting those panels set down on the ground so the mess over there can be cleaned up.
“Then we can assess how that’s going to move forward, but we’re waiting on a proposal back from the engineering company. They’ll do kind of next steps on what that’s going to look like for long term. They’ve kind of broken it into temporary, mid and then long term, what that might look like,” Groninger said.
