Editor, Times-Union: Let me begin this letter with an apology. Sorry, to all of you that has to listen to this discussion via this newspaper. Thank you to the Times-Union for giving us this platform. I strongly feel you should respond using the same venue. Mr. Adams asked, “What is the truth?” My W-2 for 2010 states my wages were $52,795.72. One of the state’s checks and balances is a yearly audit. The audit confirms accurate payment of the Winona Lake clerk-treasurer’s salary. Winona Lake’s salary ordinance allowed my salary to be $53,000+. Included in the ordinance is a provision for a bonus that could be granted at the end of the year by the town council. John and Kent, the 100R form printed in 4/20/11 in the Times-Union is correct. The form reflects the base salary plus the 2010 year-end bonus for the one end of the year pay. The accurate amount would have shown the normal bi-weekly pay of the previous 25 pays. Retha Hicks Winona Lake Clerk-Treasurer Winona Lake, via e-mail
