Cornelius S. ‘Butch’ Swieringa Jr.NORTH WEBSTER – Cornelius S. “Butch” Swieringa Jr., 77, of North Webster, was carried into glory and met his Savior at 12:20 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 12, 2021, at Kosciusko Community Hospital in Warsaw.

He was born on May 31, 1944, in Hammond, to Cornelius S. and Virginia DeYoung Swieringa Sr.

He graduated from Highland High School and was a United States Army veteran. He was married on Nov. 5, 1965, in Lansing, Ill.., to Lorraine DeBoer, who survives and retired from Eagle Brook Transport in East Chicago, Ind., after 20-plus years. He grew up in the Highland area and moved to North Webster 10 years ago permanently after summering there for many years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and American Legion Post #253, both in North Webster. He was active in the Wednesday morning Fishing Buddies Group, Thursday Men’s Church Prayer Breakfast Group, Thursday One Stop Bait Shop Bible Study and Thursday Wood Carver’s Club.

Weekly telephone conversations with family and friends or just visiting with friends on the porch overlooking the water were the highlights of his week. He was an avid reader, fly tier, story teller and wood carver. His last scripture read and marked in his Bible was Psalm 89:15 & 16.

He is survived by loving wife, Lorraine Swieringa, of North Webster; two sons: Thomas (Monica) Swieringa, of Celina, Ohio; and Craig (Andrea Cook) Swieringa, of Chicago; daughter, Colleen (Jesse) Lindsay, of Cedar Lake; three beautiful grandchildren: Raina, Shannon and Trevor; sister, Peggy Mickles, of Portage; brother-in-law, Wayne (Sharon) Klootwyk, of North Judson; brother, Jim (Laura) Swieringa, of Newnan, Ga.; sister-in-law, Debbie Swieringa, of Tinley Park, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Patsy Klootwyk; and two brothers, Charles and Robert Swieringa.

Cremation will take place at Cremation Services of Kosciusko County, 4356 N. Ind. 15, Warsaw. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Owen Family Funeral Home Ind. 13 and CR 500N, North Webster, is in charge of arrangements.
