The ML Community Impact Alliance (MLCIA) and the Freedom Fest Committee invite community members, service clubs, families and organizations to join them at the Kosciusko County Community Fairgrounds for a community work day as they prepare the grounds for Freedom Fest and the celebration of America’s 250th Birthday.
All volunteer hours will be officially recorded and submitted to America250 as part of the national #AmericaGives initiative.
The Community Work Day is Saturday, April 25, beginning at 9 a.m.
The work day is part of a larger effort where the MLCIA has orchestrated significant improvements through donated materials, volunteer efforts and local business support to enhance the fairgrounds for the upcoming celebration and for year-round community use, according to a news release from the organizations.
These improvements benefit not only Freedom Fest, but also the Kosciusko County Community Fair, 4-H programs, Camp HERO hosted by the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office, Combined Community Services events and many other community gatherings.
Recent and ongoing improvements include:
• New grandstand safety handrails
• Replacement bleacher boards for safer seating
• Seal coating the main fairgrounds driveway
• 500 tons of donated limestone to repair parking areas and drives
• Asphalt millings to improve traffic and parking areas
• Regrading and reseeding the infield area
• Lakefront cleanup and restoration
• Leaf removal and general grounds beautification
Through the #AmericaGives initiative, communities across the country are encouraged to honor America’s 250th birthday through acts of service. Organizers hope these efforts will create a domino effect of community pride and volunteerism throughout Kosciusko Count, the release states.
Businesses and individuals who contribute materials or services will be eligible to be recognized as Freedom Fest sponsors.
