The community is invited to gather Wednesday, July 8 at 6 p.m. on the east side of the Kosciusko County Courthouse for a special public reading of the Declaration of Independence, commemorating the anniversary of its first public reading on July 8, 1776.
Although Americans celebrate Independence Day on July 4, it was on July 8, 1776, that the Declaration of Independence was first read publicly to citizens, allowing the people to hear the words that formally announced the birth of a new nation.
As part of the America 250 celebration, communities across the United States will gather at the same time to participate in a nationwide public reading of the Declaration. Kosciusko County is proud to join this historic observance, according to a provided news release from ML Community Impact Alliance.
This event continues the spirit of Freedom Fest, which was held in June and brought thousands together to celebrate faith, freedom and community. The July 8 reading is a continuation of those patriotic festivities and is organized by the ML Community Impact Alliance, with support from the Greater Warsaw Ministerial Association.
The ceremony will offer an opportunity for citizens of all ages to reflect on the courage of the nation’s founders and the timeless principles of liberty, equality and self-government that continue to inspire Americans nearly 250 years later.
Everyone is invited to attend this free public event. Families, students, veterans, civic organizations, churches, and community members are encouraged to come together as Warsaw joins communities across America in reading the words that changed history, the release states. A group picture will be taken to be included in the America 250 Time Capsule.
