Community Bible Church Installs Steeple, New Doors

With the recent installation of a steeple, Community Bible Church can now be identified as a church by people coming down the road.
Rev. David Mitchell, retired pastor, said the church previously did not have a steeple on it. The process of putting one on the building was started after comments were made of people not realizing Community Bible Church was a church.
“And so I thought, ‘We need to do something to make it like a church,’” he said.
Community Bible Church Board Chairman R. Larry Overstreet said money was left for the church after a parishioner died a few years ago. The church used that money to build a steeple and put in new front doors.
Purchase and installation of the doors was about $7,000 and the purchase and installation of the steeple was about $4,000, Overstreet said.
The doors were put in last year and took about a week to be finished. The steeple was installed about a month ago and took about a day to install, Overstreet said. “But we had to order them, have the materials made and the steeple was made in Georgia, Louisiana, somewhere along there, and shipped up here.”
Overstreet said the new doors will make it easier for people to come in and out of the church as the previous ones were old and one of them didn’t even open.
“The steeple, we want that to be a beacon to let people know this is a church building with a gospel and that’s what we’re presenting,” Overstreet said.
Pastor Joe Lloyd has been told people can see the steeple from down the road.
“(The steeple) points people to the building and then that points people to the Lord, we hope,” Overstreet said.
