Columbia City Man Gets Probation

Posted
A Columbia City man, who threatened to shoot up McDonald’s and had drugs in his car, was sentenced Monday.

Michael T. Platter, 28, appeared in front of Kosciusko Circuit Court Judge Mike Reed Monday and was handed one year in the Kosciusko County Jail for a Level 6 felony conviction of possession of precursors with intent to manufacture methamphetamine, and one year in KCJ for a Level 6 felony conviction of intimidation. Those sentences run concurrently, but consecutively to a probation violation sentence Platter is currently serving in Allen County. Reed suspended the sentences here to formal probation.

According to the probable cause affidavit, on March 15 Warsaw police responded to McDonald’s and was told by employees that Platter entered the restaurant, asked to use their phone and was denied. After he wasn’t allowed to use the phone, Platter threatened to shoot people, then fled on foot to Steve’s Auto Care. When police found him there, according to court papers, they took him to jail. At the jail, Platter told police a vehicle of his was parked at the McDonald’s. A subsequent search of the vehicle found pliers, battery shavers, Coleman fuel, pseudoephedrine and multiple syringes.

Upon Platter’s release from Allen County custody in November, he’ll have to report to Kosciusko County Probation.
