Coach Ogle

Editor, Times-Union:

After returning from a class in Nashville, Tenn., I read the article entitled "No Decision on Tiger Coach's Fate" with great interest.

Regarding Coach Ogle, I think he is a terrific person and coach. If my wife and I were fortunate enough to have children, I would want Doug Ogle as their coach. The numbers in the win/loss column are irrelevant to me. He has so much more to offer, unfortunately, however, high school coaches are not valuated and retained on those criteria.

This controversy with regards to a coach illustrates my point about the classroom being an afterthought. When one of my colleagues went to Dr. Lucht to discuss issues of concern, he was told that he was the "poison" of the department. On the list of leadership principles, I wonder which one that is. Trashing the person raising concerns is an old habit.

The school board did well to follow the advice of Superintendant Hayworth that "... the new athletic director, new principal (Troy Akers) and I evaluate him at the conclusion of the next season."

This would be good for Coach Ogle because, for some, Akers has conducted the teacher performance evaluation process without ever stepping into the classroom. Lucht and Akers have twisted the teacher evaluation process. They have turned the teacher evaluation process into their own private Idaho, hustling teachers, board members, and the public.
