CLAYPOOL – Tuesday’s meeting of the Claypool town council was highlighted by Joe Nelson’s request for guidance regarding several aspects of the Claypool trailer park on Warner Drive.
Nelson, who co-owns the park, asked the council for approval to put up a new sign at the entrance to the park. He also petitioned for advice regarding two sheds on park property.
The sign will more clearly show the entrance to the park for residents and visitors.
The first shed Nelson inquired about will be used to house a new water softener system for the park.
“There’s nothing wrong with city water, but I want to improve the plumbing and quality of water for the park’s residents as best I can,” said Nelson.
According to Nelson, the park already owned a shed that would work for the system. Currently at the back of the park, Nelson said the shed will be moved to Lot 1 upon council approval.
Nelson also requested permission for a second shed, a 28-foot by 14-foot unit, to be moved onto the property as storage for a mower and maintenance tools.
The council approved both the sign and the two sheds and will send Nelson a letter signifying so this week.
In other news, officer Randy Bays reported that the Claypool Police Department had responded to 181 calls for service in June.
Additionally, Bays said one of Claypool’s squad vehicles had been dealing with issues, namely the engine shutting off at inopportune times. He speculated that the vehicle’s computer might be at fault. Per an estimate given to Bays, repairs could cost $1,000 to $1,200.
The council requested that he make an appointment with Rice Ford-Lincoln in Warsaw to determine the source of the problem this week.
The council also asked Clerk-Treasurer Patricia Warner to set up a meeting with grant writer Lori Shipman.
Shipman met with the council during the June meeting regarding the possibility of using grant funds to purchase a new police and/or utility vehicle for the town.
The next council meeting will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 20.
