Claypool Man Is Second Suspect In Elkhart Attempted Armed RobberyA Claypool man has been identified as the second suspect in the alleged armed robbery of an Elkhart Walmart on Wednesday.
Seth Aaron Carlos Allen, 28, was identifed Thursday as the suspect, according to Capt. James L. Bradberry of the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department.
The first suspect was previously identified as Joseph P. Gerber, 37, Warsaw.
A third suspect is being sought.
At approximately 8:06 a.m. Wednesday, ECSD officers responded to a complaint of suspicious persons in a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot at 30830 Old U.S. 20, Elkhart. Officers found two men in the vehicle with a handgun in plain view, according to an ECSD news release.
Officers learned that a third subject had entered the store, which prompted them to evacuate and search the building in an attempt to locate the individual. They were not able to find the third person; store video confirmed that the subject already had left the premises, the release states.
Allen was found to have a warrant for his arrest for felon in possession of a handgun and for delivering a controlled substance – methamphetamine, and was taken into custody by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms and booked into the St. Joseph County Jail.
He is scheduled to appear in federal court at 2 p.m. today in the Robert Grant Federal Building, 202 S. Main St, South Bend.
Local charges for Allen are being requested through the Elkhart County Prosecutor’s Office for conspiracy to impersonate a public servant, a level 6 felony; and for conspiracy to commit armed robbery, a level 3 felony.
Gerber was arrested and booked into the Elkhart County Correctional facility for unlawful possession of a police radio, a B misdemeanor; carrying a handgun without a permit, an A misdemeanor; obliterating identifying marks on a handgun, a felony; and conspiracy to commit armed robbery, a level 5 felony, according to the news release.
