A Claypool man who has two open domestic battery cases and one conviction for beating the same woman over the course of the last five years is back in jail for allegedly doing it again.
Dyrell Aaron Kreis, 39, of 3211 W. CR 700S, Claypool, was booked in the Kosciusko County Jail at 10:28 a.m. Thursday and faces charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, a Level 5 felony; and domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.
According to the probable cause affidavit filed Dec. 16 in Kosciusko Superior Court III, on Nov. 12, Kosciusko County Sheriff’s deputies responded to domestic battery at a residence and spoke with a woman who said Kreis is her husband and they were arguing, when Kreis picked her up two or three times and slammed her to the ground.
“Kreis then grabbed a knife and began stabbing things around her,” court papers state. Police observed a knife sticking out a box slice marks on a cushion and a bag of cat food, according to police reports.
“Kreis then drug her into the garage and told her to stay while he held a 22 rifle in his hand,” court papers state. Police reported they found a 22 rifle in the garage, and injuries matching the woman’s story, according to the affidavit.
His bond was set at $20,250.
Kreis was convicted of domestic battery to the same victim on Dec. 22, 2014, in Kosciusko Superior Court I, court records indicate.
Kreis has pending cases stemming from 2014. According to the probable cause affidavit filed in that case, sheriff’s deputies responded to a residence where Kreis is accused of battering the same woman. When police arrived, the woman told police she was attempting to leave Kreis – her boyfriend at the time – whom she lives with and that he physically grabbed her arm and attempted to restrain her from leaving the property and struck her. The woman told police, according to court documents, she was six month pregnants with Kreis’ child, and that Kreis is very controlling, will not let her leave the house, keeps her car battery unhooked and keeps her identification and credit cards away from her and will not give them to her. Police found injuries matching the woman’s story, according to court documents.
When questioned by police in that incident, Kreis told police the woman said she was going to kill herself and was trying to leave the property and he was only trying to stop her from doing that. Police charged Kreis in that case with a Level C felony of battery causing bodily injury to a pregnant woman, and a Class A misdemeanor for domestic battery.
Court records indicate Kreis is to be sentenced at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 27 in Kosciusko Superior Court I for that matter.
Kreis picked up another case on Nov. 26, 2016, after Warsaw police responded to domestic battery involving Kreis and the same victim. According to the probable cause affidavit, when they arrived, police spoke with the woman who said she and Kreis had been arguing for two hours when Kreis picked up a knife and threatened to send her to hell. The woman told police Kreis hit her several times while she was down in a closet, and that a child was present at the time. Police found injuries matching the woman’s account, court records state.
When questioned by police in that incident, Kreis said that the woman had hit him multiple times in the jaw with a closed fist. Police charged Kreis in that case with a Level 6 felony charge of domestic battery with a child under 16 present and a Class A misdemeanor for domestic battery. Kreis is set to be sentenced in this matter also at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 27 in Kosciusko Superior Court I.
On June 27, sheriff’s deputies again responded to a residence for domestic battery between Kreis and the same victim. Upon arrival, according to the probable cause affidavit, the woman told police she and Kreis were arguing, when he pulled her up the stairs by her hair. Police reportedly found marks matching the woman’s story. Kreis was not at the residence at the time of this incident. Police charged him with a Class A misdemeanor for domestic battery.
