CLAYPOOL - At Tuesday night's meeting, the Claypool Town Council decided to halt Town Marshal Ben Sanders' Operation Pullover (OP) hours.
The town's insurance company, the Council learned at their Aug. 3 meeting, will not cover OP hours. This means the town of Claypool would be held liable for any incidents occurring during OP hours, in Leesburg or otherwise.
"For liability purposes, we have no choice but to halt," said Council President Benny Stage.
Sanders can still assist other agencies and as a town marshal he can ticket anywhere in Kosciusko County, but the Council agreed to halt OP work "until we can find other options, if they are available," said Stage.
Other business included an amendment to the 2021-4-1 ordinance regarding American Recovery Plan funds. The Council adopted an expenditure fund to house $97,994.20 earmarked for water treatment plant improvements including a third lagoon, chemical storage facilities, a new pumphouse and valve replacements.
The Council voted to enter into a contract with Baker Tilly, whose representatives will assist the town in writing grants and acquiring funding.
Replacement swings for the town park have been ordered and are pending installation.
