CLAYPOOL — At Tuesday night's meeting, the Claypool Town Council approved a three-year contract with Borden Waste-Away Service Inc. for curbside trash and recycling pickup.
Jason Conley, SiteWorx CEO, told the council the offered rate of $14.40 was per resident for weekly trash and biweekly recycling pickup. SiteWorx is a subsidiary of Borden.
Clerk-Treasurer Pat Warner said this rate for both trash and recycling is lower than what current services for trash pickup only would be in 2024 from Waste Management.
Chris Harrison, of Commonwealth Engineers, asked the council's permission to move ahead with a K21 Health Foundation grant application. The council agreed to apply for this funding which, if awarded, would go toward eliminating stormwater flooding and other sewer system-related improvements.
Harrison said the town should get results from the retention pond survey by Nov. 15.
The council approved the 2024 budget totaling $275,768. The general fund totals $192,542; local roads and streets, $14,500; motor vehicle highway, $31,000; cemetery, $6,000; and cumulative capital development, $1,000.
Main Street will be closed on Halloween beginning at 4 p.m. for trunk-or-treat, which is from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31.
Council will next meet at 7 p.m. Nov. 21.
