City Council Rejects Warsaw Library's Request For $17M For Repairs

Posted

Everyone who spoke at Monday’s five-hour Warsaw Common Council meeting on the Warsaw Community Public Library’s request for $17 million in bonds for repairs all said how much they love the library.
But when it came down to the council’s vote, concern about taxes and dollars beat out the love.
Councilwoman Diane Quance made the motion to approve the resolution to issue the $17,090,000 in bonds with the proceeds of the bonds to be appropriated to the library’s repairs project. Council President Jack Wilhite seconded the motion, and Councilman Mike Klondaris voted in favor of the motion.
However, Council members Cindy Dobbins, Juergen Voss, Jerry Frush and Josh Finch also voted against it.
The library can’t request a bond appropriation for another two years, in which case the cost for the needed repairs is expected to be double the $17 million request.
Due to the meeting going past midnight, and past the print deadline for the newspaper, a follow-up story will appear in Wednesday’s newspaper with more details.
