Editor, Times-Union: Wake up, America! We have lost our bearings. Some people think that politics have no place in the church. Many ministers and church leaders have been bullied and intimidated by the ACLU and IRS into believing they will lose their tax exempt status if they say anything political, but we as Christians are losing a lot more than money. We are losing our freedom of worship and speech. Many of our founding fathers were ministers of the gospel and they used the churches and pulpits to help fight the Revolutionary War. Our founding fathers wrote our Constitution on Judeo-Christian principles. God gave Moses the 10 commandments to lead the children of Israel and here are the commandments. Exodus 20 I – God: I am God, do not worship any other Gods besides me. America: Government has become our God. II – God: Do not make idols of any kind, whether in the shape of birds or animals or fish. You must never bow down to them, for I the Lord am a jealous God who will not share your affection with any other God. NIV America: Global warming, green earth, sex, animal rights. III – God: Thou shalt not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name. NIV America: I can say anything, it’s my right. Freedom of speech. IV – God: Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. America: Sports arenas are full. Sunday best day to shop. V – God: Honor your father and your mother. America: Children’s rights. Parents don’t need to know everything. VI – God: Thou shalt not murder. America: Abortion legal VII – God: Thou shalt not commit adultery. (Read Leviticus 20:13) America: Same sex marriage legal. No fault divorce. VIII – God: Thou shalt not steal. America: Excess tax. Death tax. Tax to spread the wealth around. IX – God: Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor. America: Freedom of speech. Politicians especially can say anything in Congress and cannot be sued for libel. X God: Do not covet your neighbor’s wife or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey or anything that belongs to your neighbor. We say God bless America, but can we expect him to bless us when we don’t obey his laws? Election is coming. Christians need to get involved, informed and vote. Check the candidates’ records and see what they have done, and not what they say. Liberty Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom and other Christian organizations have printed voting record guides that are very helpful in knowing how the politicians have voted on different bills. II Chronicles says: If my people which are called by my name humble themselves and pray and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and forgive their sin and will heal their land. But verse 19 says: But if you turn away and forsake my statutes and my commandments which I have set before you, and go serve other Gods and worship them, then I will uproot you from my land which I have given you. However, there is hope: John 3:16 says: For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life.
