“We know people are struggling this year and this was our way of responding,” explained Calvary UMC member Amy Rensberger. “We are offering soup and sandwiches in the fellowship hall directly after services, which usually end around 11 a.m.”
Calvary has been providing free meals every second Friday of the month for several years, and recently have seen an uptick in meals requested.
“We used to average about 120 meals each month, we are now seeing closer to 180 meals requested,” Rensberger noted. “People are struggling and money is tight during the holidays, this was our way of showing we care.”
Calvary also has programs planned on the Sundays before and after Christmas. On Dec. 21, the 10 a.m. worship will include a concert of Christmas music by handbells and vocalists, and on Dec. 28, the children of Calvary will present an “After-Christmas Special Program,” that will include congregational caroling.
