Child Support

Posted
Editor, Times-Union:

I have recently been seeing a lot of letters concerning child support. I am thankful that the state is finally doing something in regards to non-support, even if it is something small.

I am currently dealing with this issue myself. If I am not getting support for my children, I would much rather that my ex be sitting in jail without his freedoms rather than having fun. I work everyday to make sure my children have what they need and sacrifices are made for my children.

I do think more things need taken away. Why should the non-paying parents have the freedom to do what they want when they want, while the custodial parent is working everyday to provide the necessities for their children? Jobs may be lost, but there are others to be found. The custodial parents have no exceptions. If they lose their job, then they have to get right out there and find another, all the while trying to support their children. There will always be an excuse as to why support isn't being paid. These are children. There should be no excuse. If the custodial parent does not support their children, there are repercussions for those actions.

Normally, if a custodial parent does not take care of their children, it's called neglect and there is jail time and fines involved. The non-paying parents should also be held accountable, because there is no excuse. Not supporting their children is a form of neglect.

I urge everyone to contact legislative offices. I have been given an address to write to specifically for this reason. If you would like that address, please e-mail me at tired.of.no.support@gmail.com I will gladly give that to you.
