Child Slavery

Editor, Times-Union:
Did you know that there are 126 million children worldwide that are going through labor child slavery? Every day a child either dies, is raped constantly or have just gotten captured. When reading this story and everything that I have learned, it has a very emotional toll on me.

When looking into the children being captured in Saharan Africa, those children being captured for child slavery/labor, 49 million to be exact, every day those children go through a rough time; they do not have a childhood. All they have is the clothing on their backs. They were captured and forced to do things by a man named Joseph Kony forced thousands of children into slavery.

Kony also made those children kill their parents, or made them kill their close friends. If they choose not to then he would kill them. Another major place is Haiti, a lot of kids forced into slavery as well, girls get raped constantly, and the boys have to kill anyone and everyone if their leader said to.

In today’s society we don’t think about these things, we don’t really talk about it, never even mention it. We don’t think about what family are facing no one knows about those families and what they are facing every day. We as a society have to start coming up with plans and always think about if your family was in that place and in order to live you would have to kill one of your family members in order to stay alive. Always think about if you were in their position. We need to start up a charity for these people. It would be right to do.

My name is Ericka Sutton, a 10th grader at Warsaw High School. I was researching about child slavery/labor, and people need to start caring and knowing what people’s situations are. So if you can donate $3 to your local school to help their suffering children at least get enough food to survive. Just remember always think, “What if that was me out there?”
