Child Killed By Vehicle On Husky TrailAn 8-year-old boy was hit and killed by a vehicle Monday on Husky Trail.

According to a Warsaw Police Department news release, at 1:47 p.m. Monday WPD and other first responders were dispatched to an injured child call in the area of Husky Trail at North Pointe Drive. Upon arrival, officers discovered an 8-year-old male child had been struck by a 2008 black Nissan Sentra.

The driver of the Sentra was identified at the scene as Raven L. Loubert, 24, Tippecanoe.

The injured child was taken from the scene by Lutheran EMS. While enroute to Fort Wayne Lutheran Hospital, EMS diverted to Whitley Parkview in Columbia City, where the boy was pronounced dead by Parkview Hospital medical staff. Identification of the victim will be released after confirmation of family notification.

Preliminary investigation indicates the child had been crossing Husky Trail at the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

This is an active investigation. WPD investigators are being assisted by members of the Kosciusko County Fatal Team. The WPD has been in direct communication with Warsaw Community Schools as the child was a student and had been attending summer school.

WCS released the following statement: “This afternoon, Warsaw Community Schools was informed a WCS student was struck by a motor vehicle on Husky Trail near Harrison Elementary. Warsaw Community Schools’ staff and administration extend their thoughts and prayers to those affected. The district is working alongside local law enforcement to assist in any way possible in their investigation.”

On her Facebook at about 5:30 p.m., Loubert posted: “To everyone that is worried bout me. I truly didnt mean to do it at all. I will not be answering my phone for the rest of the day. As far as I know I am not in any trouble with this accident. I will say I am truly deeply sorry to the family for their loss and I know I can never fix this but I hope in there hearts that they can forgive me for what I have done. ... News doesn't do the story justice and for anyone that is wanting the full story directly from me please by all means message. But I will not be responding to anybody until tomorrow cause with any accident I am pretty shaken up bout it. Thank you to all of those that care and again I am truly sorry for the loss of that little boy.”
