SOUTH WHITLEY - Charles Lynn Renschler, 58, of South Whitley, died at 1:48 a.m. Nov. 14, 2009, in Veterans Administration Hospital, Fort Wayne.
He was born April 4, 1951, in Whitley County, to Howard M. and Helen Wright Renschler.
He attended South Whitley High School and entered the U.S. Army in 1969. He completed his training as a medical corpsman and became a medical specialist serving in the Vietnam War. In addition to his Parachutist Badge, Air Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry and Combat Medical Badge, he received the Purple Heart. He also completed his GED. He was honorably discharged from Fort Jackson, S.C., Nov. 28, 1975. Returning to South Whitley, he formerly worked at JG Cabinet & Counter, Larwill, and Autoliv, Columbia City. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2919, South Whitley.
Surviving are two daughters, Angela (and spouse Johnny) Belcher and Tracy (and spouse Douglas) Farmer, both of Warsaw; a son, Charles Renschler Jr., Warsaw; two brothers, Michael (and spouse Linda) Renschler and Dennis Renschler, all of South Whitley; a sister, Deborah (and spouse David) Wiehe, South Whitley; and nine grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Marion National Cemetery.
Calling is from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Smith & Sons Funeral Homes, Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
