Charles John “Chuck” Taylor, 85, of Avinger, died Aug. 12, 2011, in Jefferson.

He was born Dec. 3, 1925, in Akron, to Emmet E. and Mary H. Taylor. His wife, Betty Jean Taylor, survives.

He was a World War II U.S. Marine Corp veteran and was a retired trucking supervisor. He was a Veterans of Foreign Wars Post commander for more than 16 years, established the Memorial Honor Guard and was a life member of the Marine Corp League and American Legion. He was a member of Mims Chapel United Methodist Church.

Also surviving are two sons, Stephen A. (and spouse Linda Starr) Taylor and Clennon E. (and spouse Linda L.) Taylor; two sisters, GeNelle Hoffman and Norma Dye; eight grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son and a brother.

Services were Aug. 15 at VFW Post 10373, Jefferson, with the Rev. Richard Dowden officiating.

Grubbs-Loyd Funeral Home, Diana, was in charge of arrangements.
