Whitley County Commissioner Chad Banks, the brother of U.S. Sen. Jim Banks (IN), died Wednesday evening.
Sen. Jim Banks - who represented parts of Kosciusko County when he was a U.S. representative - issued a statement on Chad’s death, saying, “I’m very sad to share that my brother Whitley County Commissioner Chad Banks tragically passed away this evening. Our family is devastated. Chad was a devoted husband and father to six children, a proud U.S. Air Force veteran, and a dedicated public servant. Please keep his wife, Sarah, their children, my parents and extended family in your prayers.”
The cause of death was not released.
Many people and organizations responded to the news with statements.
The Whitley County Board of Commissioners statement said Chad’s leadership, integrity and compassion “shaped our county in immeasurable ways.
“Commissioner Banks was a man of faith and principle, known for his tireless dedication to the people of Whitley County. He inspired many, including fellow commissioners, through his encouragement and example. His absence leaves a profound void in our community and in the hearts of those who knew him.”
The commissioners extended their deepest condolences to Chad’s family and stated that plans to honor his legacy will be shared in the coming days.
Whitley County Emergency Management Agency said, “Whitley County is devastated by the sudden loss of Commissioner Chad Banks. A devoted husband, father of six, U.S. Air Force veteran and dedicated public servant - Chad’s impact on our community was profound and lasting. We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, their children and the entire Banks family. Please keep them in your prayers. Chad’s legacy will live on in the hearts of those he served and inspired.”
The Whitley County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center said, “The WC Chamber is deeply saddened by the loss of a very good man. A friend, colleague and devoted supporter of the Chamber. Our prayers to Sarah and the whole Banks family at this time of mourning.”
U.S. Sen. Todd Young posted on his Facebook page, “So sorry to learn this news. I join with all of Team Young in sending our condolences and prayers to Senator Jim Banks and the entire Banks family.”
U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman posted, “Please join Christy and I in praying for the Banks family after their tragic loss. Indiana lost a good man yesterday. Chad will be sorely missed.”
Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita posted, in part, “Last night we lost a truly great Hoosier. Whitley County Commissioner Chad Banks was a devoted family man, proud public servant and U.S. Air Force veteran who exemplified courage, service and love for his community. ... May we all stand together to honor his legacy, support those he loved and pray for them during this difficult time.”
