Caucus For Winona Lake Ward 4 Seat Set

Posted

Kosciusko County Republican Central Committee Chairman Mike Ragan officially announced Thursday the time, date and location of the caucus to fill the vacancy on the Winona Lake Town Board.
The caucus will convene in the Winona Lake Town Hall Chambers, 1310 Park Ave., at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6.
Ward 4 Councilwoman Heather James resigned from her seat on the town council before a caucus voted her in Tuesday as the new town clerk-treasurer to fill the vacancy left by the resignation Oct. 10 of Clerk-Treasurer Laurie Renier.
Instead of seeking re-election to the council this year, James ran for and won the race for clerk-treasurer against incumbent Renier. Barry Andrew ran for and won unopposed James’ seat to represent Ward 4. James wasn’t scheduled to take over the clerk-treasurer position until Jan. 1, but Renier’s resignation created the need for the caucus and for James to take over the job sooner.
Andrew is expected to file for the caucus to finish out the remainder of James’ term on the council, which ends Dec. 31. On Nov. 6, there will be 55 days left in the year.
Eligible members of the caucus, by statutory definition, are the Republican Precinct Committee members of Wayne 1, 3, 4 and 10 in Kosciusko County who have served continuously from 30 days before the date of the commencement of the caucus.
The Winona Lake Town Board member shall be elected by secret ballot of the majority of members of the voting caucus to fill the vacancy in the office.
Declarations of candidacy are available at the office of Kosciusko County Clerk of the Circuit Court, 121 N. Lake St., Warsaw, and must be filed with Ragan no later than 72 hours before the commencement of the caucus. Eligible candidates will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus.
