Cassie Mae Haywood Shepherd, 101, passed away at 4:50 a.m. Feb. 1, 2015, at Mason Health and Rehabilitation Center, Warsaw.
She was born Nov. 29, 1913, in Prestonsburg, Ky., to Hager Lee and Sarah Adkins Justice. On July 20, 1934, in Prestonsburg, she married Willie Haywood, who died July 29, 1985. In 1992, in Sidney, she married Alex Shepherd, who died April 30, 2002.
She moved to Kosciusko County from Prestonsburg in 1954. She was a homemaker and a member of the former Northern Little Dove Regular Baptist Church, Pierceton, and Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist Church, Kendallville.
She was a loving wife and mother. She was a mother to all the neighborhood children, and she would take care of anyone, feeding and caring for their needs. She was a wonderful seamstress, quilter and gardener.
Surviving are four daughters: Rebecca (and spouse Clyde) Arnett, Claypool; Virginia (and spouse Alvin) Rockhill, Goshen; Judy (and spouse James) Brumbaugh, Milford; and Fannie (and spouse Dan) Widaman, Warsaw; three sons: Burl C. (and spouse Lana), Bill H. (and spouse Virginia) and Joe D. (and spouse Sandy) Haywood, all of Warsaw; three stepdaughters: Martha (and spouse Claude) Wallen and Evelene (and spouse Joe) Serovy, all of Warsaw; and Barb (and spouse Larry) Robinson, Claypool; two stepsons, Henry (and spouse Toni) Shepherd, Warsaw, and Monroe (and spouse Ernestine) Shepherd, Claypool; two sisters, Grace (and spouse Don) Brown, Columbia City, and Cathleen Justice, Martin, Ky.; a daughter-in-law, Christena Haywood; 21 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and 19 step-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Robert B. Haywood, who died May 20, 2014; and Johnny Lee Haywood, who died in 1948; her mother, who died in August 1985; her father, who died in August 1966; four brothers: Joe, John, Sandy “Buck” and Bill Justice; five sisters: Cynthia Hunter, Susie Compton, Mary Alice Ousley, Emogene Marsilett and Cindy Compton.
Services will be at noon Wednesday at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan St., Warsaw, with Elder Russell Hicks, Little Flossie Old Regular Baptist, Kendallville, officiating. Burial is in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Calling is from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the funeral home.
