Candidates For Town Of Sidney, Jackson Township Republican Caucuses Set

Candidates For Town Of Sidney, Jackson Township Republican Caucuses Set Sidney will have its new Republican town board member and clerk-treasurer at Thursday’s caucus.

Kosciusko County Republican Party Chairman Mike Ragan said Etta J. Hurd, West Arthur Street, Sidney, was the only Republican who filed for the clerk-treasurer position as of Monday’s deadline. She is a former policewoman in Texas, but returned to the area, and Ragan said he has confidence in her that she can do the job.

The only person who filed for the vacant Republican town board seat was Sharon Rancourt, South Main Street, Sidney.

Attempts to reach Hurd and Rancourt Tuesday afternoon for comment were unsuccessful.

Ragan said County Coroner Tony Ciriello is the only precinct committeeman for the town of Sidney, so therefore Ragan will appoint Hurd and Rancourt to the positions after consulting with Ciriello, barring any unforeseen circumstances.

Their appointments will be effective immediately and they will be sworn in Thursday night.

A Democrat caucus for the vacant Democrat seat on the Sidney town board also has not been announced by Kosciusko Democrat Party Chairman Brian Smith.

Effective Jan. 14, Sidney town board members Kenneth Koontz (Democrat) and Ricky Bradley (Republican), along with Republican Clerk-Treasurer Lana Wolfe resigned. Bradley and Wolfe resigned due to improperly being in those positions, according to Ragan, and Koontz resigned due to his health. The sole member remaining on the board is Democrat Jack Wolfe.

Before that caucus at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Sidney Fire Station meeting room, a Republican caucus will be at 6 p.m. for the vacant seat on the Jackson Township Trustee Advisory Board.

According to Ragan, the candidates for the township board are Debbie L. Wilcoxson, Pierceton, and Tom Brainard, North Manchester.

Marsha Dierks resigned as a Jackson Township Advisory Board member effective Jan. 1 due to her moving out of the township. Dierks was elected Nov. 6, 2018, for a four-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2019. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2022.

Eligible members of the Republican township caucus Thursday, by statutory definition, are the Republican precinct committeemen of Jackson Township who have served continuously from 30 days before the date of the commencement of the caucus.

Members of the caucus, candidates, candidates families, designated caucus staff, Republican Party officials, duly appointed watchers and members of the news media are eligible to attend the caucus.

Each candidate will be allowed a maximum of three minutes to address the voting caucus Thursday. Candidates must meet residence requirements, be a Republican in good standing, and not have a felony in their history.
